ICA began a trial in 2005 evaluating systems to determine the best biometric technology for securing the border checkpoints throughout the country. It was specified that any solution considered would be required to do both a 1:1 verification match for ePassport and Visa solutions and also perform 1:n searches in large databases for known offenders that are not allowed within the Singapore borders.
The A4Vision 3D solution was tested side by side with traditional 2D facial recognition technology. The trials focused on ease of use, matching precision, and flexibility to adapt to ambient conditions such as lighting and different image capture angles, all of which can have a significant impact on face recognition performance and accuracy.
